Pirates Return to the Waterfront for Landlubbers Day at Seaport Village
Free event features costumes, crafts and live entertainment in September, date TBD.
SAN DIEGO – Avast, me hearties! In celebration of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Seaport Village is hosting Landlubbers Day, a festive celebration of all things pirate. Held Saturday, in September (date TBD) from noon to 4 p.m. the free event features live music from the Jackstraws, San Diego’s very own pirate-themed band; costume and “Talk Like a Pirate” contests for kids, adults and pets; a mermaid grotto; arts and crafts; and food and drink specials from Seaport Village shops and eateries.
Lads and lassies of all ages are encouraged to don their finest eye patches and pirate garb for a chance to win prizes. At 2 p.m., the costume and “Talk Like a Pirate” contests will kick off, where prizes for best costume and best pirate accent will be awarded to entrants in a number of age categories. Four legged scallywags will also have a chance to compete with a new pet costume category added this year. The contest is limited to the first 20 contestants in each category, and sign ups begin at noon. Landlubbers Day also includes a mermaid grotto featuring photo opportunities with beautiful mermaids, and live street performances from a number of Seaport Village’s talented buskers – from sword swallowers to rock balancers – along the boardwalk.
“We’re thrilled to welcome pirates of all ages back to Seaport Village to celebrate Landlubbers Day,” said Terry Hall, general manager of Seaport Village. “This is the largest Talk like a Pirate Day event in San Diego, and we’re looking forward to another fun-filled day of activities on the waterfront.”
In addition to the festivities outlined above, guests can enjoy shopping and dining from more than 50 unique shops and eateries located within Seaport Village, including Captain’s Cove, a locally owned store specializing in nautical pirate décor and gifts.
Seaport Village is located in downtown San Diego at West Harbor Drive and Pacific Highway. Easy parking for Landlubbers Day is available in the Seaport Village parking lots at $5 for the first two hours with validation and $3 every 30 minutes thereafter.
