"Deck the Palms" at Seaport Village Wraps Holiday Fun with SoCal Lifestyle
Sunday, Dec. 2-event adds new tropical-style festivities to enhance second-year celebration
SAN DIEGO - Forget the traditional white Christmas, and retreat to Seaport Village to celebrate all that makes the holidays unique in Southern California-tepid
temperatures, palm trees, surfboards and sand. On Sunday, Dec. 2, Deck the Palms will again transform the bayside shopping center destination into a
warm-weather wonderland embracing even more of San Diego's most-renowned winter elements.
"The first Deck the Palms blew our expectations out of the water, and we've added so much more entertainment and activities to this year's schedule," said
Seaport Village General Manager Terry Hall.
In addition to housing the unique boutiques and custom gifts that holiday shoppers seek, Seaport Village will sparkle with creatively decorated palms placed
throughout its four miles of cobblestone pathways.
Santa will make his stylish (and warm-weather) arrival at noon on the boardwalk near Pier Café, and will then be available for pictures on his surfboard
and wave until 4 pm.
Deck the Palms will also feature an award-winning sand sculptor team creating an exclusive scene with SoCal Santa and his elves, and a professional chalk
artist, who will not only create her own piece but help participants add drawings too. And in this year's craft corner, kids will again get to decorate
sand dollar ornaments as well as participate in new San Diego-style crafts including sun paper art and candle decorating. Festive lights and decorations,
along with more live upbeat holiday music and entertainment will spice up the ambiance at Seaport.
"Santa makes his stop in San Diego before trading in warm weather for a busy season in arctic temperatures," said Hall. "Back again this year are two crowd
favorites-- the Fruitcake Chuck-n-Hurl and photos with Santa on his surfboard."
All monetary donations plus proceeds from the Fruitcake Chuck-n-Hurl will benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation and its efforts to break the cycle
of child abuse, through prevention, education, advocacy and funding. For more information on the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, visit
www.capfsd.org.
Deck the Palms runs Sunday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Organizers expect Santa to arrive with a splash around noon, and he will be available for photos
(not supplied by Seaport Village) until 4 p.m. All shops, restaurants and eateries will be open for holiday shopping and dining from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
