Stay in Style at Solamar! Win a FREE 2 NIGHT Weekend Stay at the Newly Renovated Hotel

Attention all locals and visitors from near and far! Boardwalk Betty here, and I’m about to tell you all about the newly renovated Hotel Solamar by Kimpton Hotels and how you can win a FREE two night weekend stay!

Hotel Solamar was originally opened in 2005 as a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of downtown San Diego, only steps away from dining, shopping and most importantly… Seaport Village! Our friends over at Solamar invited me over recently to take a tour of their exciting new upgrades, and boy was I impressed!

First we started with the redesigned meeting spaces down on the first level. With funky art, metallic accents and high ceilings, this space could turn any meeting or function into an outside-the-box experience. Oh, and did I mention the entire hotel is pet-friendly? Bring your furry, feathered, or scaly friend with you at no extra charge, and they will even receive a personalized greeting at check-in.

Next were the guest rooms, where I was pleasantly surprised by vibrant colors and exotic patterns everywhere I turned. A classy combo of eclectic modern fixtures and Spanish-influenced architecture gave these rooms a hip vibe unparalleled by any other hotels in the area. The goal of the color pallet was to capture Southern California’s playfulness and sophistication, which was totally accomplished if you ask me. All 235 guestrooms have been remodeled.

We stopped by the LOUNGESix pool deck and bar, which features an inviting swimming pool and also a chic bar with a trendy feel. Relaxing here by day or enjoying a cocktail by night would be nothing less than fabulous.

Hotel Solamar wants YOU to come stay with them and experience all of their great features and amenities. To find out more about room rates, packages or things to do while staying at Hotel Solamar, click here

I stayed at The Viceroy Hotel in Palm Springs and the entire cast of Laugh-In was staying there at the same time. What a hoot! Sock-it-me!
One time I stayed at a hotel in Hawaii and each day they left a small gift. A poem, a shell, a cookie...always different.
Once stayed in hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Solamar Hotel in San Diego's Gaslamp District on the weekend of April 15-17th of 2016. It was both our first time staying at a Kimpton Hotel. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to stay an additional night. The entire staff was extremely welcoming and hospitable. Our room was upgraded to the Deluxe King Spa which was a nice touch since we were there to celebrate his birthday. I would love to revisit this hotel and re-experience the great time we had. We definitely enjoyed their happy hour they host in the lounge and their bartender, Andy gave us above par service in their bar at the Jsix restaurant. Definitely a weekend we will forever remember.
I once stayed in a snazzy hotel in Lima, Peru, with an elevator that would stick for long stretches (with guests inside). I got to know the other international guests pretty quickly there!
My favorite hotel stay was for our honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas. They decorated our bed with rose petals that made the whole room smell amazing.
The hotel that goes above and beyond with their customer service is the hotel you will remember. There was a hotel in LA that displayed this "above and beyond" customer service attitude. It was a boiling hot summer, and the staff overhead guests complaining about the intense heat. The hotel responded by offering guest free Popsicles by their pool. The guests were blown away by this simple but gracious act of kindness! It pays to listen!
Luv San Diego and her hotels...stay at the Horton during Comic Con; even with all the crazy it's a quiet refuge!
My first cruise that I have ever been on was amazing! It's a floating hotel and the best part of it was our amazing room attendants who gave us special fresh fruit, chocolates on our pillow and memorized our names! Little things go a long way to say the least in the service industry!
One time I stayed at a hotel in Beijing, China. It was our first night there and although the hotel was fabulous, the beds were as hard as a rock!! The rest of the hotels were the same way... must be a cultural thing! It was an amazing trip but boy was I happy to sleep on my feather top when I got home!
I had the BEST experience at Hotel Solamar... There was a welcome gift in the room when we arrived! The hotel is beautiful and its right in the middle of the Gaslamp and East Village... walking distance to great bars, restaurants, clubs and lounges. Best vacation and hotel experience!!
Back in my college days, my friends and I would go on weekend trips to San Diego. On our first trip, we ended up getting reservations for Hotel Solamar through Priceline. Our room was beautiful and we enjoyed the rooftop pool. I haven't been able to stay at Hotel Solamar since that trip and I would love to come back with my fiancé!
Best hotel stay was at the edelweiss resort in Garmisch Germany. Best views of the alps from the jacuzzi
Waking up to sounds of the ocean in Maui.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the La Jolla Cove Suites in front of the La Jolla Cove for his 22th birthday . We had our own king suite with a beautiful view of the sea lions and the waves. Even though we paid a hefty price for that suite, we encountered problems with the toilet. The toilet kept getting clogged and we were always calling for a maid to come unclog it. It was 8 at night, and of course when I used it to go pee, the toilet was clogged and would not flush. For the rest of the night and morning, we both peed in the shower. Eventually the toilet finally flushed, so I decided to go number 2. It would not flush again and so I left a note saying the toilet is broken and I left a present. My boyfriend and I laugh about it till this day. It is definitely something we would never forget.
My husband and I have always loved San Diego. It has always been our favorite place to visit. A couple of years ago we went for a short trip and stayed in a budget-friendly hotel that we had never been to. It wasn't bad, but definitely not fancy by any means. That night I was proposed to at Seaport Village (our favorite place to visit in SD). It was the best moment of my life up until then and that makes that hotel stay the best, too! I'll never forget it.
On our first ever trip to Hawaii we stayed at a hotel for 2 days before our timeshare. It was a long flight with our 2 teenagers and we were excited to be there and start doing things like going to the beach. We arrived at the hotel a few minutes before check in time straight from the airport. We weeent expecting our room to be ready since we were a little early, we were just hoping to leave the luggage and go see the beach. Upon checkin there was some delay. Was totally ready for them to let us know we would need to wait for our room to be ready when the lady talks to the bellman and sends him to show us to our room. Excited to put our stuff away we follow him to our room for the next 2 nights. When the elevator stops he told us we'd need to carry the luggage the rest of the way, by then we were confused but followed along. We start up a stairway and he opens a door and says just this way and opens another. We enter the penthouse. We were given a 360 degree view of Waikiki. 2 bedrooms. Full kitchen and living room. Crazy!! We had saved for this trip and this was jaw dropping. My kids of course claimed the "big room" with the sauna in the bathroom. I was totally okay with that. I was almost sad to leave the room to explore the island. At the end of our 2 day stay my girls isn't want to leave there to go our timeshare. We definitely had an experience that will stay with us forever.
My favorite hotel memory was when I stayed at the Disneyland hotel and they would leave Mickey shaped gifts for us!
One time I stayed at The Marriot and had the most delicious dinner . And they did have hearts , made with the towels. I would love to stay at seaport village..
I remember my 2nd time going to Vegas for a bachelorette party, we stayed at the Bellagio. Not only was the outside of the hotel an amazing sight to see but once inside I was floored. The space in the suite was perfect, the view was beautiful and the bathroom... Wow! I loved laying out by the pool, it was so nice. I remember thinking to myself 'I wish I could experience a hotel similar to this at home in San Diego!'
Love Kimpton Hotels. Have stayed in Tacoma, WA, San Diego, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. Every stay was fabulous. Staff sincerely friendly and accommodations are wonderful. And the food! Every restaurant in the hotel was simply delicious. I love the Kimpton Hotels.
My husband and I stayed at Secrets:The Vine in Cancùn. It's was absolutely beautiful with a full view of the ocean and 7 different all inclusive restaurants. The dream honeymoon! Best part is it was a surprise until we got onto the airplane!
Favorite hotel memory would be staying at a hotel in San Diego that wasn't scary after getting to the originally booked room and finding it trashed. At the time there were tears but no I cannot help but laugh
One of my favorite hotel stays was in 2003 in Anaheim. My husband had just returned from his deployment, our son was 7 at the time and with the military special available at that time we were able to afford a couple of nights in Paradise Pier, a Disney hotel. From the magical environment we experienced in the hotel though the time spent in the parks. It was a much need family vacation.
I loved staying in hotels in Japan. There were always kimono provided and complimentary slippers to take home! (I still have a pair from my trip to Osaka.).
I stayed at Aulani Disney Resort in Oahu, Hawaii and Goofy called and left my child a message and we received Mickey waffles. Everything was so magical! Felt like royalty there! When we arrived they even put leis on us. Everything was so beautiful.
I stayed at Le Pavilion in New Orleans last year it's impeccable French decor was fabulous. Everyone working there was so courteous and had the best mannerisms and southerm char. Every night at 10 pm they put out a whole fancy peanut butter and jellies spread with hot cocoa for guests, cute treat. Can't wait to go bak
Have stayed at many hotels but we keep coming back to the Bahia Hotel in Mission Beach - love the proximity to the ocean - we bring our beach cruisers and just ride...
One of my favorite hotel memories is staying at a resort hidden in the woods overlooking a lake on Orcas Island in the state of Washington. Waking up to the serene and beautiful scenery was beyond surreal.
I stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in Downtown San Diego with my twin brother and that trip if full of so many fun memories! It was a very special brother/sister trip. We had a nice dinner in their restaurant, got spa treatments at their spa, and spent one of our days at Seaport Village! It was an awesome trip.
